Come on in…Please?

If we do say so ourselves, Potterhill Homes has a great website. An award-winning website, as a matter of fact.  And we do our best to keep the community information, news and photography as up-to-date as we can.  It is a lot of work but we take great pride in our site. Lately, however, we’ve come to have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the web.

Trends tell us more and more real estate shoppers have moved their search to the internet.  We have a good site so that’s great for us, right?  Well…let’s go back to the first blog post I wrote so many weeks ago. While the internet is a wonderful starting point, we’re beginning to believe it is becoming an ending point more often than we would want. Let me explain.

I have beautiful photography of the Mills of Miami.   But, to truly understand what this community (or any community) has to offer, you have to “be there”.  You need to take it all in: the flow of the streets, the entry way, the way the place feels.  You need to drive (or walk or bike, if you are being Green!) past the community from every angle. You need to check out the surrounding area. Figure out how long it’s going to take to get to your favorite grocery store chain.  The internet can’t show if a community has kids riding bikes and neighbors out on front porches. It can’t show the demographics of the neighborhood.  Those kids I just mentioned? Great for me but that would drive my parents nuts!  How does photography capture the soul of a community? It doesn’t.

What is my point, you ask?  The basics of shopping for a home have not changed as much as you would think.  Yes, you can do your homework on line but you have to go! Too many people are relying on the internet to rule out communities and homes without experiencing them first hand.

Have you ever seen a car ad on television, gone to drive it and thought “That isn’t as great as I thought it would be…”  Aren’t you glad you took the test drive rather than just stopping relying on the commercial? To continue the bad car buying anology, have you ever bought a completely different car than you thought you would?  One that was not on your original list but you loved it once you saw it in person and drove it? Until you see it in person and drive it, you don’t know. With homes, until you see it in person and tour it, you don’t know.

So pick a community and GO!  Come on in!  Talk to a salesperson. Tour a home. Or, if you’re not that far along, just drive through. It’s going to show you more than anything I can post on a website.  We look forward to seeing you.
