A Few Helpful Hints From Duke Energy To Keep Your Energy Bills This Winter To A Minimum

Posted By on January 18, 2011

With all of snow we have already recieved for the Winter season, this year’s outlook on weather looks to be very frigid!

However with the Help from our Friends at Duke Energy they have put together a list of things to do keep your home warm for the winter.

At  Duke Energy they are constantly striving to help their customers keep their energy bills as reasonable as possible.

Duke Energy has also come up with some helpful hints to save some energy this winter season:

  • For your Heating:
    • Keep your thermostat at the lowest comfortable setting(Aim for 67-69 Degrees if possible)  If you are going to be away for several days, turn the thermostat to a lower setting, but not to “off.”
    • Change air filters every month. Dirty filters can increase operating costs

  • For Your Insulation:
    • Weather-strip around doors and windows. Seal cracks or crevices where two different building materials meet. It’s also a good idea to weatherstrip between heated and unheated areas such as garages, basements and attic openings.

  • For Your Household in General:
    • Ceiling fans help keep you comfortable not only in the summer but in the winter as well. Reversing the direction of the blades pushes warm air down into the room. Fans should turn counter-clockwise in the summer and clockwise in the winter.
