Are the Days of the McMansions Gone?

Waste not, want not. Remember that saying? McMansions are quite the antithesis of this statement. A McMansion can be identified by the following criteria: a home with more bedrooms than there will ever be residents, more space than will ever be needed, and an overly large house for a small family.
Think huge houses (8,000 square feet), small lot sizes & families with 3 people living in them. That’s a McMansion.
In my estimation, the days of the McMansion may be gone for good. In my estimation, people want to live in smaller, more compact, and more space-efficient homes.
Over the past few years I have seen a trend in people who would otherwise be “moving up” into a larger home now instead moving into either same-size homes with nicer finishes or into smaller homes.
Not only is the death of the McMansion very eco-friendly (think of all of the energy saved, and the lumber, and the building materials), it is also a return to simpler times when you could sip lemonade (or a cocktail if you so choose) on your front porch and talk to neighbors.
I for one am happy to see this trend because it is on the “waste not, want not” philosophy on which Potterhill Homes was founded. You can see it in our attention to energy efficiency, in our attention to architecture & detail, and in the efficient use of space in every one of our homes.
I’m not the only one who thinks the McMansions are gone either…check out this link as seen on ABC News:
