The Salvadore, another green home with character (and a story!) from Potterhill Homes.

I am not joking when I tell you this home was named after a distant relative who lives in Rome Italy.

Let me tell you about Salvadore Merino. As a young man, Salvadore was a fighter pilot in WWII for Mussolini. He was shot down by an Allied plane while flying over Turkey (then a neutral country). Salvadore crash landed but was able to walk away with barely an injury.

Just as he emerged from his plane, the Allied plane that had shot him down came swooping in over him.  Salvadore thought for sure he was about to get shot dead. Instead, the fighter pilot just waved his wings at Salvadore and flew off.  In that moment, Salvadore was able to get the number off of the Allied plane and memorized it.

Salvadore is a smart man and realized while in Turkey he was on the wrong side of the war. He stayed in Turkey for as long as he could (I guess you could say he was A.W.O.L.), until the Turks discovered him & forced him out to stay in compliance with their neutrality agreement.

Salvadore marched back to Italy just as the American’s were landing on the shores. Allied Victory soon followed.  Salvadore rejoined the military under Allied rule.

Salvadore ended up becoming General Montgomery’s pilot and attaché for implementing the Marshal plan.  As he was still in the air force, he rose to become a Four Star General.

This gave him certain privileges. One of those was access to information about Allied Forces fighter pilots. Remembering the Allied pilot who had spared his life some years before, Salvadore dug through information to find out who that fighter pilot was. He found the man & called him after the war to let him know he was grateful for the mercy that had been given him.  Salvadore and that fighter pilot actually became friends.

Salvadore Merino is full of character.  It is only fitting that our best selling ranch style home, just as full of character, be named in his honor. I give you “the Salvadore”…
