Potterhill Homes gets an “A” from the Better Business Bureau

Posted By on August 18, 2009

Until recently I did not know the Better Business Bureau had a rating scale for businesses.  I discovered it when one of our customers asked a sales representative what our BBB rating was. That’s when we discovered Potterhill Homes has an “A” rating from the Better Business Bureau.

This made me curious. I had to look up my competition. Because we are always competing for business with Ryan Homes of Cincinnati, I decided to start there. I discovered they have a “C” rating from the BBB. To me this was not surprising, as I have heard from many people who have purchased from them that the quality and customer service was missing to say the least.  Don’t get me wrong. They are a well-run company.  They simply aren’t focused on quality like we are at Potterhill Homes.

Yet we continue to fight for customers with them. This made me ask, “how can Ryan continue to be one of the largest homebuilders in Greater Cincinnati, yet they have dissatisfied homeowners and build their homes to the bare minimum standards allowed?” Here’s what I came up with.

Because of their large volume and by cutting out as many materials as they can, they can beat almost any other homebuilder on price.  I’m not talking tens of thousands of dollars, but I am talking about $2- $3,000 in most cases.  Quality, however, is another issue.

Customers all too often look only at price when buying their home. This makes me scratch my head since your home is likely your single biggest purchase, yet homebuyers look for price price price and think only of quality as a close second.  That is, until after the sale, when they realize they have purchased a low quality home.  Then they expect the quality to be there, and quite simply, it’s all too often missing. It seems they forget they saved a few thousand dollars and suddenly quality is the only thing that matters.

With Potterhill Homes, you won’t wonder where the quality is. You won’t wonder how you ended up owning a home built by a “C-Rated BBB company”. You will have a high-quality, energy-efficient home that will help you save hundreds of dollars each and every year on the cost of ownership when compared to those “C” companies. And if something does break, it’s most likely covered under our 7-year whole house warranty. No other builder offers this.

Potterhill Homes might cost a couple thousand dollars more than Ryan Homes (but not always), but don’t forget the cost of ownership goes up with a lower quality home.  Don’t get caught with a “C” home. You deserve an “A”.
