I Love My Job!

Posted By on October 14, 2009

Today I am headed to Washington, D.C. to view the homes competing in the solar decathlon taking place this week.  20 university teams are competing to design, build & demonstrate the most energy-efficient solar powered home.  The 20 homes will be on display at the National Mall in Washington D.C. this week and are open to the public for touring.

Teams are competing for best architecture, most energy efficient, most marketable and other categories. The decathlon is sponsored by the US Department of Energy. As of this post, I believe they have announced the winners of certain competitions. However, their website is not functioning properly for me to be able to find out the information on the winners…most likely they are updating it making it difficult for me to navigate pages.  If you’d like to try the website yourself, visit www.solardecathlon.org

During the opening day of the decathlon, the DOE announced that there will be $87 million in funding available to help the solar power movement move forward. The funding will support initiatives from installer training to development of new carbon neutral solar technology to research projects. To read more about it click here http://www.energy.gov/news2009/8115.htm.

Stay tuned for photos of the event, and other blog information on the latest & greatest in solar technology!

Carolyn Rolfes is the President of Potterhill Homes. And she's also a Rolfes - as in daughter of Dan Rolfes, the infamous Red Tag Man of Holiday Homes. So what does that say about Carolyn and who she is? Plenty. When you grow up the daughter of man who does commercials in his red underwear, you have no choice but to have a great sense of humor and humility from a very young age. Carolyn and Dan founded Potterhill Homes in 2001 and she has grown it to be one of the most successful home builders in Cincinnati. Home building is in her blood and she has a keen awareness of what consumers look for in a new home and how to deliver value at all levels. And while we don't make Carolyn dress up in green underwear for our commercials, we bet she would if we asked!

Solar Energy is one of the best sources of clean and green electricity. I think that we should build more efficient solar thermal power plants and solar cells. frequently. .
