Tax Credits & Rebates for Energy Efficient Improvements to Your Home

Posted By on February 16, 2010

Did you know each state has been allocated funding to offer rebates on energy efficient appliances when you replace an older appliance in your existing home?

For instance, Kentucky will offer up to a $400 rebate when you install a new geothermal heat pump, while Ohio will offer up to $100 when you buy a new energy efficient refrigerator.

These rebates are in addition to the tax credits available from both state and federal governments. Using the geothermal heat pump as an example, a resident of Kentucky can get up to $400 from the state of Kentucky in addition to a 30% tax credit with no cap from the federal government to offset federal income tax (that’s likely to translate to an $8,000 or better tax credit).

In Ohio, solar panels really pay. There is a grant program (read: FREE money!) in place that will pay for up to 50% of the installed unit (cap of $8,000 for a single family residence)- in addition to a 30% federal tax credit.  For information on this as well as other Ohio incentives, visit: http://www.greenenergyohio.org
