Potterhill’s CitiRama 2010 Home Has Achieved Our Best Energy Rating Yet!

Posted By on May 25, 2010

Hot off the press! We just received the final HERS report (Home Energy Rating) from our provider, and our CitiRama 2010 home has achieved the best energy rating Potterhill has received to date!

A HERS rating is a measure of energy use in a home.  A HERS rating of ’100′ represent the energy use of a home built to the American Standard Energy Code from 2006.  A HERS rating of  ’0′  indicates that the building purchases no net energy (a Net Zero Energy Building).  The lower the rating, the more energy efficient the home.  Until now, Potterhill’s lowest HERS rating was a 52.

But now, we can claim our lowest HERS score ever of a 42!!!!!!

The estimated annual utility bills according to the report are only $1,200 per year on this home (or $100 per month), and this home is almost 2,300 square feet.  Think about how much your utility bills are compared to that…I know mine are much higher.

So, how did we build such an energy efficient home? For starters, our production department builds the best houses around, period. That means the home is tight construction and very high quality with near zero imperfections.

Then we use the best materials around: blown cellulose insulation to fill all of the nooks & crannies in the wall cavities (reduces drafts); Geothermal heating & cooling system which uses the earth’s constant core temperature to help heat and cool the home; programmable thermostats to help maximize heating & cooling efficiencies; whisper green bath fans to help keep indoor air fresh and low-E EnergyStar rated windows to help keep conditioned air inside.

This home qualifies for the most rigorous EnergyStar Rating, as well as LEED Certification.  The HERS rating is the method used to qualify for EnergyStar.  Stay tuned for information on the homes’  final LEED rating, which is still in the works.

Congratulations to Tim & Troy, the homebuyers who will enjoy this extremely energy efficient Potterhill CitiRama 2010 home.  And, thanks for building with us!

    Carolyn:

Good morning. My wife, Karen and I really enjoyed meeting you at Citirama on Sunday.

Your Citirama home is outstanding. We also drove down to Kirby Road to visit the Potterhill model home with a projected $0 per month energy bill. Keep up the good work1

Potterhill is leading the way here in the Tri-State in terms of quality construction, reasonable prices, and energy efficiency. It is so great to have an innovative company like Potterhill in this market.

    Best regards,

    Bill Collins

  2. Carolyn says:

    Bill & Karen,
It was nice speaking to you Sunday as well.
I did not realize you live in Madisonville…my husband and I do too. We built a Potterhill home on an infill lot there in 2002…unfortunately it isn’t as energy efficient as our Net Zero energy home, but we still love it!

Thanks for the kind words & stay in touch.

    Regards,

    Carolyn Rolfes
