Beds for Kids
Thousands of Greater Cincinnati’s children literally sleep and eat on bare floors because their families lack the financial and other resources to provide a suitable bed due to conditions of poverty. “Beds for Kids” is a grant-funded program that enables New Life Furniture Bank to buy new bed sets when donations of gently used beds are not available. The impact is immediate and long-term: Immediate in that children can sleep comfortably and wake up rested; long-term because a suitable mattress is essential for proper physical and mental development and avoidance of chronic illnesses. Based on an average cost of $155 per bed set, New Life Furniture Bank expects to buy at least 133 beds with the Dater Foundation’s grant. Since more than one child is often placed in a bed, these beds could improve the lives of 200 or more children.
