Youth Apprentice Employment Program
The ArtWorks mission is to transform people and places through investments in creativity. At ArtWorks’ core is the Youth Apprentice Program, which transforms young people ages 14-21 by providing jobs and 21st-century career-readiness skills training in the unique context of the visual arts. Professional artists mentor Apprentices who gain meaningful job experience, learn effective workforce habits, and create thoughtful works of public art. In 2018, with the support of a Dater grant, ArtWorks hired 177 youth from 65 different neighborhoods and communities. Apprentices represented 35 different high schools and 12 universities. Apprentice teams reflect the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of the communities they serve.
