Site-Based Mentoring, Adopt-A-School
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. The Dater Foundation supported Site-Based Mentoring. A volunteer mentor (Big) meets once a week with his or her Little. They meet at school to play games, do homework, throw a ball or just talk. As a result of being in these supportive mentoring matches, Littles from low-income, single-parent families strengthen their social-emotional abilities, increase their ability to resist risky behaviors, and improve their academic-related competencies. In 2018, BBBS served 506 young people through this program; and evaluations at the end of the year showed that 100% of Littles stayed in school, and 99% were not abusing drugs or alcohol and stayed out of the juvenile justice system.
