The Dan Beard Council is the administrative body of the Boy Scouts of America responsible for providing the Scouting program in 12 Counties of Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. With an annual membership of more than 30,000 youth and adult members, including more than 600 at-risk youth from the inner city, the Dan Beard Council is one of the larger metropolitan councils in the country, and the largest youth organization in the Cincinnati area. The mission of Scouting includes helping instill in young people the values found in the Scout Law -- A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.
ScoutREACH is the Dan Beard Council's commitment to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting. ScoutREACH delivers the Cub Scout and Scout program to youth residing in designated low-income and minority outreach communities. It ensures that all youth can participate and benefit from Scouting, regardless of their neighborhood, ethnic background or parental support. ScoutREACH programming is provided at no cost to all the participants to ensure that any youth can experience everything Scouting has to offer.
Programming included: summer outdoor camping and educational programming; a fishing derby; Merit Badge Challenges; Pinewood Derby build day and race day in partnership with Professional Leadership Network; and swimming programs in partnership with the YMCA. Through March 2018, these supplemental programs served more than 600 ScoutREACH youth this program year. Remaining activities include Cub-O-Ree and Spook-O-Ree, which provide additional opportunities for ScoutREACH members to participate in programs outside of their neighborhood.
