Playhouse School Outreach Tour

In addition to producing world-class, professional theatre for 130,000 Greater Cincinnati residents annually, the Playhouse offers an extensive range of educational programs.  In the 2017-18 season, the Playhouse brought the magic of live theatre to schools in the region through its School Outreach Tour, consisting of three plays: The Last Firefly by Naomi Iizuka; Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio, adapted by Toby Hulse; and Mike Kenny’s adaptation of Rapunzel.  Plays were performed by members of the Acting Internship Program, giving young actors real-world experience, and featured professionally-designed costumes, sound effects, and sets.  Study guides and actor-led discussions after the performances strengthened learning and engagement.  Productions were performed in 67 schools and reached 23,792 children, 63% of whom were from low-income homes.  Support from a Dater grant allowed the Playhouse to fully or partially cover the costs for 57 Title I schools that have minimal access to arts education.
