After School Arts Program for Inner-city Teens
Elementz, newly relocated in Over-the-Rhine near Findlay Market, is an arts center for inner-city youth, providing instruction in various forms of music, song-writing, poetry, dance and visual art that spring from hip hop and street culture. Children and teens come to the center after school to work on their art form and get opportunities to perform what they have learned in public. Over 200 children and teens come to Elementz over the course of the year and an additional 450 participate in the in-school program. A Dater grant helped Elementz increase the number of hours of programming by 25%, providing over 1250 hours of instruction in music, dance and visual art and over 8,000 individual encounters with children and teens from the inner-city neighborhoods.
