Serving Students with Learning Disabilities in Inner City Schools
OptimALL Services provides intervention to Catholic and non-public schools. This program serves inner city schools. These schools often have 90% of students receiving free and reduced lunch. 70% of the students are not Catholic. OptimALL brings learning strategies, resources, and intervention staff (teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists) to these at risk students. OptimALL students receive an average of three hours of intervention weekly, preparing them with skills for the future.Without these learning strategies, 50% of students with learning disabilities will have be part of the justice system and 47% will be unemployed.OptimALL is a unique, one-of-a-kind program. There are many costs when we start at a new school. After the startup, the program is sustainable through the state's Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship (JPSNS) and Autism scholarship. These scholarships are financial resources for students with learning disabilities in nonpublic schools.
Program Goals:
Services will ensure better life-long outcomes for the student with the learning disability including reducing risk for being in the justice system as well as improving their employment options. In the short term, we will measure success in the following way:
1.) 20% of OptimALL students will be in inner city schools where the majority of students are on a free and reduced lunch program. This will be measured by Service Form.
2.) Academic gains for students with disabilities are realized through OptimALL. 80% of students will meet goals on Individual Education Plan. This will be measured by quarterly progress reports.
3.) 90% pf Parents and Principals report improved service with OptimALL. This will be measured by Parent Survey and Principal Survey.
Program Results:
1.) 30% (60/200) of OptimALL students were inner city schools (where the majority of students are on a free and reduced lunch program.) This was measured by Service Form. This is 6% more than originally estimated.
2.) 92% of students will meet goals on Individual Education Plan.
3.) 90% of Parents and Principals reported improved service with OptimALL.
