Sleep Tight: Beds for Cincinnati Children in Need
SVDP’s Sleep Tight: Beds for Cincinnati Children in Need program provides free beds to children from vulnerable families across Hamilton County. These children are sharing beds with parents and siblings, or in some cases, they are sleeping on the floor. The reality is that there is a hidden crisis in this community: children are without their own, safe place to lay their head at night. These shocking situations are not uncommon for vulnerable families who have suffered homelessness, evictions, bed bug infestations, or other traumatic events that have caused serious turmoil and left them unable to afford beds for their children. With a $30,000 grant from the Dater Foundation, SVDP will provide 230 children with their own beds while simultaneously improving their safety, health, comfort, and hope for the future.
Program Goals:
Through the Sleep Tight: Beds for Cincinnati Children in Need program, SVDP offers families a solution to this significant problem. Each year, SVDP has provided hundreds of families with vouchers for bed sets, including the bed frame, box spring, mattress, and mattress cover. Thanks to the $30,000 grant from the Dater Foundation, SVDP aimed to provide 230 children with their own beds.
Program Results:
During this grant period, SVDP served 694 children (and 942 adults) through the Bed Program. SVDP achieved its highest redemption rate of 70% of vouchers redeemed. SVDP attributes the higher redemption rate to the portability of each bed from the new vendor. The new beds are distributed as rolled up mattresses with a platform base. These beds can be transported in a typical car, making it easier for neighbors, volunteers, and staff to deliver. With the $30,000 grant from the Dater Foundation, SVDP provided 263 children with their own beds while simultaneously improving their safety, health, comfort, and hope for the future.
