Supporting the Growth of Cincinnati Boychoir
The Cincinnati Boychoir is seeking funding from the Charles H. Dater Foundation to support our activities during our 2024 Fiscal Year, which coincides with our 2023-2024 performance season. We offer three core choral ensembles for boys in grades 3-12. When a singer joins the Boychoir, he is placed into one of three ensembles based age, skill level, and voice part. Singers receive personalized instruction based on their skill level and voice part, while also rehearsing and singing with a full SATB choir.
We perform over 20 concerts per season, both alone and collaboratively. We also offer a Festival Choir program to provide a standout choral experience to singers that is less of a time and financial commitment than our full season programming. When planning our programming, we make a concerted effort to reach new audiences, to expand our network and to present accessible arts experiences across the city.
Program Goals:
Goals and Objectives for 2023-2024 Season
- Increase total enrollment by at least 20% by the end of the 2023-2024 season.
- Maintain or increase the number of school districts and ZIP codes represented by singers.
- Provide financial aid to every family that applies for assistance.
- Engage students at 4 schools each through the Festival Choir and choral workshops.
- Present performances in a variety of contexts to maximize artistic value and visibility in diverse neighborhoods. This will be measured by comparison to previous years to ensure we are expanding our reach. We also aim to present a 1:1 ratio of ticketed to free performances to increase financial accessibility.
- Help singers develop interpersonal, leadership, and life skills in addition to musicianship and vocal technique. This will be assessed holistically by the Artistic and Associate Directors.
Program Results:
We are happy to report that we have made progress toward all of our goals listed in our original application at the time of this report, and expect to achieve all goals but one by the completion of the program year/project period (ending end of May 2024).
1. Increase total enrollment by at least 20% by the end of the 2023-2024 season. Despite increased enrollment efforts of social media marketing and teacher communications, we do not anticipate enrollment to increase by 20% by the end of the 2023-2024 season.
2. Maintain or increase the number of school districts and ZIP codes represented by singers. At this point in the current season, we have successfully maintained the number of ZIP codes/school districts represented by our singers from the 2022-2023 season to the 2023-2024 season.
3. Provide financial aid to every family that applies for assistance. At this point in the 2023-2024 season, approximately 25% of families have applied for some sort of financial assistance, whether it was a merit-based scholarship award or need-based tuition assistance. Thanks to generous donors and funders, along with our commitment to diversity and accessibility, we have been able to provide every family that applied for assistance some level of financial aid toward tuition for their student.
4. At this point in the 2023-2024 season, the Festival Choir program has engaged students at Crawford Woods Elementary School in Hamilton and KNOT Club Youth Choir from Northminster Church in Finneytown. We have held choral workshops at John P. Parker Elementary School, Gamble Montessori High School, Covington Catholic School, and Fairview-Clifton German Language School.
5. Present performances in a variety of contexts to maximize artistic value and visibility in diverse neighborhoods. This will be measured by comparison to previous years to ensure we are expanding our reach. We also aim to present a 1:1 ratio of ticketed to free performances to increase financial accessibility. At this point in the 2023-2024 season, we are on track to successfully reach at least a 1:1 ratio of ticketed to free events, with the overwhelming majority of our events being free for this programming year.
6. Help singers develop interpersonal, leadership, and life skills in addition to musician
