Salvation Army Learning Center

The Learning Center is now a 5-star (rated by Ohio Step Up to Quality) early childhood program in Price Hill. It operates from 6am to 6pm, Monday through Friday, and serves ages 6 months to 12 years. Children are grouped into classrooms based on age and the programs are designed to serve each age group to ensure children reach appropriate developmental milestones. The Learning Center uses a holistic approach to support the growth of children during fine and gross motor skills development, language skills and literacy development and the development of cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being. The Learning Center provides care for children and assists in educating families about healthy child development. The center also works with families on the importance of implementing at-home habits for maximum growth at each level both physically and mentally.

Program Goals:

Critical to children's future success, our main program goals are:

1. To provide quality care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers from low-income families living in Price Hill and the surrounding communities.
2. To offer significant early learning experiences that help children meet immediate developmental milestones, as well as prepare them for future academic/school success.
3. To construct healthy and supportive parent-child-teacher partnerships as an effective way to enhance children's learning experiences.
4. To encourage healthy and balanced lives by providing opportunities for physical activity, nutritious snacks and lunches, and an environment focused on developing creativity and a life-long love of learning.

Program Results:

Our Learning Center continued to provide quality childcare for the residents of our Price Hill community as well as our neighboring communities. We are a highly rated 5-star Step Up to Quality program, rated by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

We utilized age- and developmentally-appropriate curricula for all ages served, 6 weeks through twelve years old. We regularly assessed and monitored the progress of the children to determine their progress toward age-level developmental benchmarks both physically and cognitively. We then adjusted the individualized education plan to meet the specific needs of each child in our program. We worked with parents to provide additional support and utilized partner agencies when a child needed further assistance in an area that was beyond our ability to address.

From a child’s beginnings, we strive to support and work with the parent in providing the best possible development and education plans for their child. We engaged in regular communication with each family we served. We offered parent-teacher conferences, provided parents with copies of their child’s assessments or screenings, gave feedback, and answered parents' questions or concerns. These were administered at a minimum of two times during the year to further develop specific learning goals for their child.

Our curricula addressed all areas of child development. We built into each classroom schedule gross motor activities and physical activities twice a day. We participated in the USDA child food program and provided a well-balanced morning and afternoon snack as well as lunch.
