Summer GO Boxes
More kids are requesting emergency food support! GO Pantry is seeking additional community partners to help cover the costs associated with the increasing requests for help from our local kids in need. School breaks can be a daunting time for kids living in poverty. School breaks can be a daunting time for kids living in poverty. GO Pantry’s Summer GO Box Program strives to provide reliable food to identified kids to help them with basic food needs through the long summer months away from school. Go Pantry is requesting $25,000 from the Dater Foundation to be used towards purchasing food to fill 450 GO Boxes for the summer break. These boxes are part of a much larger project to help feed children during the long summer months away from school. The GO Boxes will be distributed to children in Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Grant, Owen and Dearborn Counties.
Program Goals:
We are currently expecting requests from 1000 families for a total of 6,000 summer GO Boxes. Each family receives 6 weeks of summer assistance boxes - three weeks in June and three weeks in July. If we collect food and donations to fill additional GO Boxes, we have established channels to share the extra boxes. The more we collect just means the more children will be helped with their basic food needs for the summer.
Program Results:
The following is from a "Success Narrative" presented following the 2023 summer program. It was received in lieu of a formal grant evaluation report.
The $25,000 Dater Foundation grant was a significant resource to help GO Pantry provide GO Boxes. This grant amount covered the food to feed 83 children and their families for the entire 6-week program of the summer. This is 1,992 individuals being fed 23,904 meals during the summer. That means your support allowed our team to continue to say yes to all the schools and families that requested summer assistance.
The total scope of GO Pantry GO Box Summer 2023 Program:
