Expanding Access and Feeding Families

Food is a basic need fundamental to individual health and well-being, yet food insecurity remains a persistent challenge in southwest Ohio. IPM is requesting funding to be applied towards the operations of its drive-through food pantries and mobile pantries (this includes a combination of personnel expenses as well as the sourcing of additional foodstuffs and produce for distribution). This request is also being prepared in the context of IPM constructing a new consolidated pantry site and distribution center on Aicholtz Road (strategically located near the I-275 and SR 32 interchange). Once the new site is operational (in the fourth quarter of 2023), IPM will have the necessary infrastructure and structural capacity in order to allow for a significant increase in its service population (with an anticipated 30 percent increase in total persons served on an annual basis). Expanded structural capacity requires corresponding program investments (for which funding is requested).

Program Goals:

In 2022, IPM served 10,819 unique persons (with 70,321 individual pantry visits and the distribution of 1,002,394 pounds of food). In 2023, IPM will open a new pantry and distribution center (at 4623 Aicholtz Road). This new pantry and distribution center will allow for an increase in the number of clients served through IPM on a daily and per annum basis (through the purposeful design of a pantry space that optimizes client throughput). The facility (and its proximity to several major arterial roads) will also serve as a more effective base of operations for planned mobile and pop-up food pantries. Once the new distribution center is operational (in the fourth quarter of 2023), IPM anticipates a 30 percent increase in its total service population (with approximately 14,000 unique individuals served on an annualized basis).

The anticipated increase in its total service population (resulting from the planned enhancements in the organization’s infrastructure) will require additional program investments for which funding is requested. Funds, whether awarded in part or whole, will be applied towards the operations of IPM’s drive-through food pantries and mobile pantries (this includes a combination of personnel expenses as well as the sourcing of additional foodstuffs and produce for distribution that cannot be obtained through donations).

Program Results:

In order to support the creation of a more resilient and equitable food resource environment in southwest Ohio, IPM has developed several scalable solutions and high-impact programming that removes barriers and expands access (including client choice and drive-through food pantries, mobile and pop-up food pantries in targeted neighborhoods and food deserts) and promotes greater inter-agency cooperation and resource sharing in order to meet the needs of clients across multiple life domains (through its Food Resource Hub).

IPM FOOD PANTRY OPERATIONS
In 2023, IPM recorded 90,334 individual pantry visits and the distribution of 1,340,635 pounds of food (compared to approximately 70,321 individual pantry visits and the distribution of 1,002,394 pounds of food in 2022). This represents an increase of more than 28 percent from 2022 in individual pantry visits and a 34 percent increase in total pounds of food distributed.

FOOD RESOURCE HUB
In 2020, IPM also established, in collaboration with the United Way, a Food Resource Hub for Clermont County (since expanded to the larger IPM service area). Within this model, IPM operates as a Food Resource Hub for other community service agencies and schools, allowing these organizations to access, as needed, IPM food resources for their respective client bases (as well as personal care essentials that cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits). In 2023, IPM partnered with a record number of agencies (56 agencies and school districts in total) to provide to their respective service populations emergency food assistance.
