Opera Education Programs 2023-24

Cincinnati Opera knows that the majority of local PreK-12th grade students have minimal opportunities to experience opera through their school or other community groups. CO’s education programs aim to address this issue by creating positive, fun, and meaningful experiences that introduce students to the artform in a format that integrates with school curriculum. Through these programs, students will develop a greater understanding of opera and will increase 21st Century Skills such as critical thinking, creative expression, and collaboration skills. Our education programs include opportunities at Music Hall, opportunities in school via large assemblies or in individual classrooms, and recurring school residency visits where professional opera artists can provide more in-depth instruction.

Cincinnati Opera plans to introduce opera to 3,000+ PreK-12 grade Greater Cincinnati students through its education programs outlined below.

Program Goals:

• 3,000+ PreK-12th grade students will be served
• Many students will experience opera for the first-time, sparking new appreciation for opera and the arts.
• CO will create new and strengthen existing meaningful, long-term relationships with schools and partner groups and lay the groundwork for future collaboration, continually developing new programs as a result.

Success will be measured by feedback and attendance information received from schools and community organizations who participate in or host 2023-2024 education programs. Leaders from these groups will be invited to complete a survey that entails both quantitative and qualitative questions so that CO may evaluate the program’s effectiveness and impact and can improve future programming.
