One Building, Thriving Families

Santa Maria (SMCS) has launched One Building, Thriving Families, a transformational campaign, the first in its 125-year history, to bring its comprehensive, family-centered services under one roof. This effort will support the construction of a new building featuring classrooms, early childhood and youth activity rooms, office space, pantry storage with a walk-up window, a computer lab, and laundry facilities. The new facility will provide Santa Maria with the infrastructure to enhance its multi-generational approach from a single location in Price Hill.

Program Goals:

• Improve safety and security of clients, staff, volunteers, and neighbors
• Increase access to infant, toddler and Head Start programming with CAA partnership

Program Results ... to date

While we have not started the construction of the building the following has been accomplished:

• Preferred site is a 5+ acre vacant plot located at 1048 Considine Avenue has been identified - we have memorandum of understanding with CMHA (Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority) to purchase the building as soon as the HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) approval is received
• The site abuts Warsaw Avenue corridor where major neighborhood revitalization is underway, specifically the Warsaw Avenue Creative Campus, led by our co-developer partner, Price Hill Will.
• Centrally located on a major bus line near other public amenities allows for increased service accessibility for individuals and families Santa Maria serve.
• Our partner, Cincinnati Hamilton County Community Action Agency, plans to purchase some property from Santa Maria for an Early Head Start/Head Start facility to serve up to 200 low-income children.
• On 2-27-2024 City of Cincinnati’s Equitable Growth & Housing Committee unanimously approved the change for the property site from residential to planned development status
