When no grant application was received by June 2023, the Foundation made a "renewal grant" for the program for which funding had been provided in the previous year. Program Results:
No formal Grant Evaluation Report was submitted with results for the program. This “Success Narrative” was submitted in December 2023.
The Charles H. Dater Grant funds are being used to feed spiritually and physically hungry people every Friday evening at a sit down "restaurant style" dinner with many volunteers cooking and serving. The majority of our volunteers are high school students as well as juvenile delinquent teenagers completing community service hours for their restitution. Several local churches and individuals donate dinners and desserts. Our food ministry continues to have many partnering agencies providing various services such as musical entertainment, Job & Family Services, free HIV/Hep C testing, Narcan training and access to mental health services, to name a few. Secondly, as our mission expands into affordable housing, "The Golden House" a generous gift (an 1881 Italianate duplex house) donated to the Community Meal Center in December of 2019 is now totally renovated and occupied. Eighty four volunteers donated their time and money to restore this home to its original beauty. This duplex home is affordable, decent, rental property for families coming out of adverse circumstances. Additionally, there is meeting space in the Golden house for local groups to gather for spiritual programs, speakers, experiencing the arts, mindfulness practice and more. CMC continues in partnering with organizations who serve the homeless population so to provide a missing component, affordable housing, in the continuum of care of poor and homeless families. The rental income of these two units is used to purchase food and supplies to sustain our food ministry and support tenants in our housing program for years to come.
