Cincinnati, Ohio, August 5, 2025 – The Charles H. Dater Foundation awarded four grants in July totaling $175,000, including $25,000 to First Tee of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky for programs that benefit underserved youth.

First Tee focuses on youngsters in Title 1 schools and offering community-based initiatives that met kids where they were: in school gyms, on public greens, and through community events like our successful CRC Community Golf Days.

The organization’s new phase of growth will leverage momentum by:

Expanding access to high-quality afterschool and expanded summer programs through new strategic partnerships with Boys & Girls Clubs, black church communities and other public partners like Great Parks of Hamilton County.

Deepening mentorship capacity through robust coach and teacher/partner and volunteer training.

Offering intentional pathways from school-based and outreach programs to "green grass" experiences on local golf courses.

Replicating its successful Community Golf Day model across additional venues.

Grants made in July:

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens, $50,000.  The Mexican Wolf Conservation Center will transform an unused section of the zoo campus into a center that will inspire and engage guests with one of North America’s most iconic and critically endangered species.

First Tee of Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky, $25,000.  See above.

Library Foundation of Cincinnati & Hamilton Country, $75,000.  The Homework Helpers program provides free help to students in Grades K-8 at targeted locations across the Library’s system.  During the school year the program assists students with homework help and skill-building coaching on any subject.  During the summer, learning and mentoring are offered to those in need of enrichment support.

YWCA of Greater Cincinnati, $25,000.  The Peaceful Solutions program aims to increase positive outcomes for BIPOC students by improving graduation rates as well as fostering career attainment, economic stability, overall wellbeing and self-sufficiency.

The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs.  Information about the grantmaking process and guidelines and links to an online grant application website are available at www.DaterFoundation.org.

The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death.  The foundation has made more than 3,900 grants totaling over $82 million since its inception in 1985.
